Freeride FAQs
What is freeride?
Freeride is all about taking an off-piste face and finding your own way down it. It’s about picking how you wanna ski and pushing yourself and the mountain!
For more info, check out the holy text: G.N.A.R. The Movie

What is UBC freeride about?
UBC Freeride is the competitive section of UBC SNB. We’re a rad group of skiers who want to get better at skiing and go to freeride comps across BC and Washington. We do local training where everyone can meet and rip together. These will happen at North Shore Mountains as well as Whistler meetups. Stay tuned in the group chat!

What are competitions?
Freeride comps are as serious or as unserious as you want them to be. They happen all over the world and are a great chance to meet new people and push your skiing. You are given an inspection run to plan your line and then you drop in and rip it as best you can! We have coaches who’ve competed at every level to help push you and get you stoked!
Check out the International Freeskiers and Snowboarders Association (IFSA) for info on the governing body and where competitions are held in North America!
Who is freeride for?
Freeride is for everyone! If you wanna ski with some rippers then this is perfect for you! Haven’t competed before? Perfect! Some of the people having the best time are first-timers! As a general guideline you should be comfortable hitting small drops and skiing almost everywhere on the mountain.
Do we go on trips?
Of course! We travel to Revy, Red, and Whistler for comps. We’ll help with organizing transport and accom, you just gotta come ready to rip! We also might go to Crystal in the US depending on the schedule.
How do I join?
Make sure you are a SNB member and then follow the instagram @ubcfreeride as well as join the messenger groupchat!
If you intend to compete, you can also get an IFSA membership to sign up for comps.
If you have any more ideas, hit us up on Instagram! We're always keen to talk about freeride. You can also talk to any of our three freeride reps for more information.
